The MQS4U-20A sets new standards for ultra rugged military application COTS Plus rackmount systems. This rackmount system is designed for high shock / high vibration environments such as vehicular mount, aircraft mount or transit case installation. The short depth of 20 inches allows it to fit virtually all transit cases. The rugged construction will assure its reliable operation in that environment. The system is designed to meet 901D (in isolated rack), 461 and 810F. The original design mission was for a flight qualied data crunching platform.
Primary construction is from high strength .090 5052 aluminum alloy. The front panel is milled from a single piece of .187 inch aluminum. The lid is secured with a number of captive screws and is provided with an EMI/environmental gasket. The overall effect is a very robust enclosure to protect the system in any foreseeable environment.
Cooling is provided by two 92mm inlet fans and two 92mm exhaust fans providing 120CFM each of high velocity air flow. The front panel is provided with an easily serviced air filter with various filter classes available.
The system is provided with two removable drive bays for 3-1/2 inch SCSI, SATA or EIDE drives. One slim DVD/RW drive and slim floppy can be mounted. Provision for enterprise class 2-1/2 inch drives in a RAID configuration can be made.
System controls are mounted on the front panel, are robust and protected, and include power control and system reset. Mounted in the front panel is the Power-on LED, HDD Activity and two LAN Activity LEDs. The switches are provided with guards to prevent accidental activation. |
The MQS4U-20A is optimized for installation of a MEB form factor motherboard with a size of 13x16.2-inches. MEB motherboards, such as the Tyan Thunder n6550EX (S4989WG2NR), provide extremely high performance with up to four quad core Opteron processors and 128GB of RAM.
Alternative configurations depending on the mission are available for installation of ATX motherboards, passive backplane and Single Board Computers. This configuration fits the mission requirements for quick access to boards for system repair and upgrade. A wide variety of active backplanes provides PICMG 1.0 and 1.3 compatibility for virtually any slot mix required by the plug-in cards including PCI-Express X1 through X16, PCI-X, PCI and even ISA.
A hold-down bar provides for securing the cards for any adverse shock and vibration environment. The chassis design is optimized for installation of high performance graphics processing boards such as the e-GeForce 9800. A combination hold-down/board blower assures these heavy boards stay seated and provide additional cooling for extreme environments.
A standard 4U PS/2 style power supply can be mounted including redundant supplies and DC input. A Mil Std 704 or 1275 compliant supply is available for military airborne or ground installations.
The chassis provides a rear mounted ground stud and low smoke / zero halogen wiring is available for military compliance. All fasteners are either self locking or are secured with Loc-Tite during assembly.
