DESCRIPTION Chassis Plans' T4R is a single board computer specifically designed to simplify upgrading older Intel® Pentium®, Intel Pentium® II or Intel® Pentium® III SBCs with a high performance Intel® Pentium® 4 single board computer. The T4R generates its own +3.3V on board and provides the ability to route the +5V over to the +12V lines of the T4R's processor. These power control features enable the T4R for use as a simple drop-in SBC upgrade in PICMG® 1.0 embedded computing systems. Most older power supplies should be able to accommodate the additional +5V power required to drive the high-performance processor options available on the T4R. PROCESSOR Intel® Pentium® 4 processor at speeds of 2.0GHz to 2.8GHz* Intel® Celeron® processor at speeds of 2.0GHz to 2.5GHz* Processor Package: mPGA 478 CHIPSET The Intel® 845E chipset supports a 400/533MHz system bus, a maximum of two double-sided DIMMs with unbuffered DDR 200/266 (PC1600/PC2100) memory with ECC and a 266 MB/s Hub Interface to the ICH4 I/O Controller. BUS SPEED
BIOS (FLASH) The T4R uses AMIBIOS8®. The flash BIOS resides in the Intel® 82802AC Firmware Hub (FWH). AMIBIOS8 contains features such as:
CACHE MEMORY (L2 AND L1) The Intel® Pentium® 4 processor supports a level two (L2) cache memory of 512K, while the L2 cache supported on the Intel® Celeron® processor is 128K. Both cache memories are integrated on-die Advanced Transfer Cache memory that is 8-way set associative and run at the full processor core frequency. Both processors include a 12K level one (L1) Execution Trace Cache and an 8K L1 data cache. PCI BUS INTERFACE The T4R's 32-bit PCI bus interface connects from the SBC's I/O Controller Hub directly to the backplane and supports a 33MHz bus speed. ISA BUS INTERFACE The T4R's 16-bit ISA bus interface fully supports all ISA bus functions on a PICMG® 1.0 backplane's ISA card slots. SUPER XGA VIDEO INTERFACE The ATI Rage Mobility M1 video controller has 8MB of on-chip memory and supports up to 1280 x 1024 pixel resolutions. Software drivers are available for most popular operating systems. DUAL USB INTERFACES The T4R supports two high-speed USB 2.0 ports for data transfers up to 480Mbit/sec. It also supports USB 1.1 devices for data transfers at 12 or 1.5Mbit/sec. The Universal Serial Bus (USB) is an interface allowing for connectivity to many standard PC peripherals via an external port. DUAL EIDE ULTRA ATA/100 INTERFACES Dual high performance PCI Bus Master EIDE interfaces are capable of supporting up to two IDE disk drives each in a master/slave configuration. Supports Ultra ATA/100 with synchronous ATA mode transfers up to 100MB per second. ULTRA160 SCSI INTERFACE (OPTIONAL): The Ultra160 SCSI interface uses an Adaptec AIC-7892 SCSI controller chip and supports SCSI device data transfer operations up to 160MB/s. The interface supports up to 15 SCSI devices, complies with the SPI-3 standard and is compatible with both single-ended and Low Voltage Differential (LVD) SCSI I/O. Software drivers are available for most popular operating systems. SYSTEM HARDWARE MONITOR The Winbond W83783S chip supports hardware monitoring. The functions monitored are voltage (+2.5V, +3.3V, +/-12V, +5V and VCORE), fan speed and temperature. The T4R hardware monitor driver allows the user to program the monitor limits to provide a trigger point for the application software. The user's application program can monitor these trigger points in order to send system alert messages or perform corrective actions. BATTERY Built-in lithium battery for data retention of CMOS memory. TEMPERATURE/ENVIRONMENT
The high-performance Intel® Pentium® 4 processor used on the T4R may consume over 70 Watts of power. The T4R's cooling system uses a high-reliability fan mounted to the SBC. MECHANICAL An active cooling system is used on the T4R to insure reliable processor operation at elevated temperatures. Overall dimensions for the T4R, including the active cooling system, are 13.3" L (338mm) x 4.8" H (121.9mm) x 1.65" W (41.9mm). *Chassis Plans validates extended temperature operation for processor speeds 2.8GHz and below using a 2.18" (55.4MM) tall active cooling system. Consult Chassis Plans for details. |
DUAL ETHERNET INTERFACES LAN 1 provides a 10/100Base-T Ethernet interface using the Intel® 82562ET Platform LAN Connect device and the ICH4 I/O Controller Hub. The 82562/ICH4 combination provides high-speed data transfers while offloading communication tasks from the system processor. LAN 2 supports both 10/100Base-T and Gigabit Ethernet interfaces via the Intel® 82540 controller. DDR200/266 MEMORY The DDR200/266 interface is a single-channel interface coming off the Memory Controller hub and terminating at two DIMM module sockets. The DIMM sockets can be independently populated with either PC1600 or PC2100 unbuffered memory modules with ECC. The memory interface supports auto detection of memory up to 2GB. Depending on the processor's system bus speed and the type of memory module used, the memory interface bandwidth is either 1600MB/s or 2100MB/s. SERIAL INTERFACE The Super I/O controller supports two full-function serial ports with independently programmable baud rates. The controller has two high-speed, NS16C550 compatible UARTs with Send/Receive 16-byte FIFOs. The IRQ for each serial port has BIOS selectable addressing. FLOPPY DRIVE INTERFACE The T4R supports up to two floppy disk drives in combinations of 360K to 2.88MB. KEYBOARD AND PS/2 MOUSE INTERFACES The mini DIN connector located on the I/O bracket provides an external interface for a PS/2 mouse and keyboard. A "Y" adapter plugged into the mini DIN connector allows the PS/2 mouse and keyboard to share the same port. Internal PS/2 mouse and keyboard headers are also available. A self-resetting fuse protects the +5V line of the keyboard and the mouse. ENHANCED BI-DIRECTIONAL PARALLEL INTERFACE The parallel port interface is compatible with IBM PC/XT®, PC/AT®, PS/2T, Enhanced Parallel Port (EPP1.7, EPP1.9) and Extended Capabilities Port (ECP) modes of operation. Both the EPP and ECP modes are IEEE 1284 compliant. The parallel port has BIOS selectable addressing. WATCHDOG TIMER The programmable watchdog timer is supported directly by the I/O Controller Hub. Two operating modes, free-running and one-shot, are available with this two-stage watchdog timer. Stage one can generate IRQ, SMI or SCI, and stage two generates a programable watchdog timer reset with a total range of 1ms to 10 minutes. POWER REQUIREMENTS The following are typical values:
-12V @ <100mA Tolerance for all voltages is +/-5% POWER CONTROL CIRCUITRY Generating +3.3V on board makes the T4R an ideal SBC choice for upgrading embedded computing systems. Chassis Plans provides a +5V auxiliary connector jumper cable for use on the SBC. This cable allows the +5V from the +5V auxiliary connector to be routed over to the +12V auxiliary connector to provide sufficient power for Intel® Pentium® 4 processors with clock speeds of 2.8GHz or less. The +12V auxiliary power connector can also be used to provide additional power from the system power supply and must be used when using processors with clock speeds over 2.8GHz.
